A sixteenth century love story about a marriage of convenience that gave birth to true love between the great Mughal emperor, Akbar, and his wife, Jodha, a fiery Rajput princess.
In the year 1557, Jalaluddin Mohammad or Jalal, a 15-year-old boy, has fought many wars on the advice of the scheming Bairam Khan. Elsewhere, it’s the birthday of the Rajput warrior princess, Jodha.
The Rajputs fail to escape Jalal’s terror. Jodha takes an oath to teach Jalal a lesson. Jalal chops off a thief’s feet for stealing his shoes from the mosque. Shakuni Bai predicts Jodha’s future.
Sujamal gets upset when he sees that Jodha is devastated. Jalal takes Bairam Khan’s advice and decides to crush the Rajputs' arrogance. At Maynamati’s behest, the king organizes Jodha’s 'swayamvar’.
Amer's future depends on who becomes the king. Prince Suryabhan Singh arrives with the princes of other kingdoms and makes Bhagwan Das the king instead of Sujamal. Sujamal and Jodha are stunned.
Hara-Gauri celebrations begin in Amer. Maynamati gets scared when Jodha seeks revenge on Jalal. Later, Jalal insults Begam Hamida Banu. Though Sukanya likes Suryabhan, the latter likes Jodha.
Bairam Khan dismisses Khanjamal. Maynamati fixes Suryabhan and Jodha’s marriage. Sukanya misjudges Jodha, who speaks to her father about Sukanya. Jalal comes to Rajputana dressed as a Rajput.
Jalal enters Amer disguised as a Rajput. Jodha speaks to Suryabhan about Sukanya but in vain. Jalal is smitten by Jodha, who sees his reflection in the water while floating a lamp.
Jodha practices sword fighting with Sujamal. A disguised Jalal mingles with the Rajputs in Amer. Meanwhile, Suryabhan arrives in Amer and captures Jalal’s guard making Jalal upset.
Jodha stops King Suryabhan from killing Jalal, as his guard is in captivity. King Suryabhan vows to kill Jalal. Meanwhile, Bairam Khan tortures Jalal’s trusted representative in his absence.
When a Rajput soldier is seen standing near a Mughal spy in the prison, he is asked to prove that he is a Rajput. When the spy goes missing from the prison, Jodha realises that the soldier was Jalal.
